Often when I talk to people about past relationships they make jokes along the lines of "can't you find anyone closer? Someone in this country?" And I joke along with them. Make up humorous explanations. But really it feels like a kick in the gut. What I really want to say is "No. I'm completely fucked up and nobody in their right mind would want to be with me if it actually meant seeing me on a regular basis." But it's probably best that I keep that to myself.

My first instinct is to tell you that you are wrong, and that you shouldn't be so hard on yourself. But I know you won't believe me.
